The 66th Annual Primetime Emmys aired this past Monday, and despite the incredible wins, what everyone seems to be talking most about is Sofia Vergara’s stunt while onstage with TV Academy Chairman Bruce Rosenblum. For those who are familiar with the awards ceremony, they know that Rosenblum’s speech can be a bit on the dull side, hence the stunt where Sofia Vergara was put on a spinning pedastal in her body hugging Roberto Cavalli gown so that audiences will have “something compelling to look at.” Immediately following the awards show, the Twitter world spoke up about Vergara’s objectification, calling the stunt both sexist and degrading to women. Katie Couric even spoke up tweeting, I love @SofiaVergara but did anyone find that schtick somewhat offensive?” In a world where feminism is on the rise more now than ever, audiences felt the stunt was just another case of Hollywood treating women as objects. The Modern Family star however felt the differently, calling the allegations “ridiculous.” Sofia later said in a statement “I think it’s absolutely the opposite. It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself and enjoy and work and make money. So I absolutely think it’s ridiculous and somebody who started — and I know who she was — has no sense of humor and should lighten up a little bit.” Well there you have it. Did you think Vergara’s stunt was offensive? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
