Augusta Auctions, a vintage clothing company owned by Karen Augusta, recently sold this cream colored zoot suit at auction for $78,000. Originally priced by Karen to sell at $600-$900, the suit began to receive calls from museums from around the country. While Augusta admitted she thought the suit could sell for “as much as $5,000, maybe more ” she didn’t think it would sell at such a high price.
The old fashioned fashion statement was bought by a large museum that aggressively outbid a second, eager bidder. It was the only suit of its kind known to have auctioned in the U.S., which placed it in high demand.
