At this time of year, I’m asked to visit many schools because it’s graduation time. In the past, I use to ask why do you want me, or I’m sure you can get a more high profile individual, however, the popular response was that because of my history with George Steinbrenner, the Yankees, and a kid that was able to get out of the tough streets of New York that I represent hope.

As a little boy I got to see a western film called High Noon. As most latin kids in the Bronx and Brooklyn in the era of the 60s, we just loved western shows and movies. The star of that film was Gary Cooper.

In 1974 Lou Pinella got traded from KC to the Yanks in Spring Training.Lou walks into George’s office to introduce himself and make it known he was there a day early. George said I’m glad you’re here a day early that will give you an opportunity to get that long hair of yours trimmed.
