MLB: Who Is Playing In National vs. American League All-Star Game Tonight?

At Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles tonight, the 92nd annual MLB All-Star game will be played, in which the best of the best players from the National League teams will compete against those from American League teams. This major game signifies the middle of the MLB season, with athletes not playing in this game getting the longest break that they will have all season. While the Dodgers are a National League team, the composite American League team will begin the game as the “home” team, with reports that Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will start off the game. Kershaw’s home field advantage will hopefully work in the favor of the National League team, which has only won 4 of the last 24 All-Star games. New pitcher Shane McClanahan, who made his MLB debut on the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020, will be the starting pitcher for the American League team.

Summer Covid Wave Surpassing Last Winter’s Case Numbers

Considering that it is now July of 2022 and the Covid-19 pandemic began over two years ago, it is bizarre to think about how through waves of mandatory quarantine and mask mandates, there continue to be spikes in Covid cases. Within schools and universities for the 2021-22 year, mask mandates were generally lifted as students were able to return to in-person classes, and stores and restaurants fully opened up to the public with no masks required. While there was a surge in cases last winter, with an increase in general illness around cold and flu season, CDC officials have noted that this new summer surge has resulted in even more Covid cases nationwide.
