3 Biggest Highlights from the AMAs

This Sunday was the night of the year for music fans all across America, as it was the night of the highly anticipated American Music Awards. There is a lot to talk about after this year’s event, from touching tributes to the controversy to one artist’s moment of glory. Here are the three biggest moments from this year’s AMAs that everyone is talking about.

  1. Pink’s Tribute to Olivia Newton-John

Earlier this year, in August, the world said goodbye to Olivia Newton-John. The star passed away at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy and decades’ worth of broken-hearted fans. To honor her and the mark she left in Hollywood and the music industry, Pink performed “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” which Olivia Newton-John famously sang in Grease. During Pink’s performance, a montage of photos of the late icon played out on a screen behind Pink.

  1. Kelly Rowland Addressed a Booing Crowd

Another big moment of the night occurred when Chris Brown won the award for Favorite Male R&B Artist. Upon his name being announced as the winner, the crowd broke out into upset, booing the artist. The artist had been slated to perform a live Michael Jackson tribute during the event, but the performance was canceled. Chris Brown did not end up showing up at the award show, leaving Kelly Rowland to accept his award on his behalf. Upon hearing the boos from the crowd, Rowland said, “Excuse me, chill out.”

  1.  Taylor Swift Won Artist of the Year

On a more cheerful note, one artist emerged as the star of the night after winning six trophy awards, plus the award of the night, the Artist of the Year. That artist is, of course, Taylor Swift. Swift recently released a top-selling album, Midnights, which has been a soaring success and has even had her hinting at the possibility of going on tour again soon. That is why it is no surprise that she took home the title at Sunday’s event.
