The much-anticipated movie adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey was dealt a pretty big blow this past weekend when lead actor Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the role, reportedly out of fear of becoming the next Robert Pattinson. As producers scramble to find another Christian Grey, rumors are swirling that Hunnam’s costar, former Ben & Kate actress Dakota Johnson, may soon be replaced as well. When the pair was the first cast, Hunnam said that he and Johnson were perfectly matched. “As soon as we got in the room, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it,” he said. “There’s just tangible chemistry between us. It felt exciting and fun and weird and compelling.” Since their chemistry was so essential to the casting, it’s fair to wonder whether filmmakers will want to only recast half of the team. 50 Shades’ many fans will certainly be watching for the latest developments.
