Looks like those rumors of Beyonce secretly giving birth weren’t true after all. After keeping the media buzzing for months, the “Halo” singer and her husband, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, welcomed their first child, a baby girl in New York on Saturday via C-section. Celebs can always be counted on for their strange baby name choices and Beyonce and Jay-Z didn’t disappoint, giving their newborn daughter the odd moniker Blue Ivy. According to Good Morning America, the couple chose the name “Ivy” because it resembles their lucky number 4, or IV. Both mommy and daddy were both on the 4th, in September and December respectively, and they got married on April 4th, 2008. Beyonce even called her latest album “4” so the number clearly means a lot.
A close friend of the couple, Gwyneth Paltrow tweeted her congratulations Sunday, stating “Welcome to the world, Blue. We love you already.” Fellow hip-hop icon Russell Simmons wrote, “Congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z” and Rihanna tweeted Saturday, “Welcome to the world, Princess Carter! Love, Aunty Rih.”
Is 2012 going be a wonderful start for Beyonce and Jay-Z? You bet!
