THE BIG BANG THEORY is a comedy about brilliant physicists Leonard (Johnny Galecki, second from left) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons, second from right), who are the kind of "beautiful minds" that understand how the universe works, but none of that genius helps them interact with people, especially women. All this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny (Kaley Cuoco, pictured middle) moves in next door. Sheldon, Leonard's roommate, is quite content spending his nights playing Klingon Boggle with their socially dysfunctional friends, fellow Cal Tech scientists Wolowitz (Simon Helberg, pictured far left) and Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar, pictured far right). However, Leonard sees in Penny a whole new universe of possibilities... including love. Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS ©2007 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.

A Theory Worth Consideration

It all began when our whole universe was in a hot, dense state then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait… Sorry. Had to. Warner Brothers and Chuck Lorre Productions have brought to American TV four lovable geeks of The Big Bang Theory. The show is set in California, as the four main characters attend The California Institute of Technology and is comprised of Sheldon Cooper, a know-it-all, too-smart-for-his-own-good and void-of-all-social-capacities physicist living with fellow physicist and best friend, Leonard Hofstadter (possibly the only semi-normal one of the bunch). Howard Wolowitz is an aerospace engineer with a raging libido, but no game to assist. Astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali is an Indian native who has trouble speaking to women. This video-game loving, Chinese-food gnashing and socially awkward group is complemented by Penny, (played by Kaley Cuoco) a blonde waitress at the Cheesecake Factory that lives across the hall. The show is in its fifth season, the new one premiering in September.
Awards date back to *August 2009, the sitcom won the best comedy series TCA award and Jim Parsons (Sheldon) won the award for individual achievement in comedy.[7] In 2010, the show won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedy, while Parsons won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.[8] On January 16, 2011, Parsons was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical, an award that was presented by co-star Kaley Cuoco (Penny). On September 18, 2011, Parsons was again awarded an Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.
Fans (like me) are anticipating a fifth season, but are not worried about not catching the show, since it plays repeat episodes on at least three channels all week. Those who can’t wait can check out full episodes online here: The Big Bang Theory Episode List
Clips are also available for first-time watchers looking to get a feel for the show.
