After months of negotiations and even requesting a trade, yesterday evening it was announced the San Fransisco 49ers and their star receiver Brandon Aiyuk had reached an agreement. The deal comes as a four-year $120 million extension, keeping Aiyuk in the Bay until 2029.
This deal ties him with Tyreek Hill as the fifth highest-paid receiver in per year salary with $30 million. The money is well deserved as BA is coming off the best season of his young career where he posted 1,342 yards and 7 touchdowns in 16 games.
According to several reports, this deal was the same as the one he was offered on August 10th, alluding to the fact that Aiyuk and his team were unable to increase the contract’s value. Adam Schefter of ESPN went as far as to say, his “hold-in did not alter any part of his new … extension”. Ryan Williams Aiyuk’s agent denied this and claimed they worked hard to get the deal done before the season at the right price.
The deal getting done also shuts down the rumors that he would be dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dianna Russini posted on X saying that there was a deal in place but the Denver Broncos who would have been a third team in a hypothetical trade to send him to Pittsburgh did not accept. The post read:
“The 49ers only were willing to trade Brandon Aiyuk if they could get a top-flight WR to replace him. They offered a third-round pick to Denver for Courtland Sutton, and then would’ve dealt Aiyuk to the Steelers, but the Broncos declined the offer. So, he stays in SF.”
