Athlete of the Month for February 2024

Bio
Alex Morgan was born on July 2, 1989, and she is a forward for the US Women’s Nation Team. 
    
Among her notable achievements, she has scored over 100 goals for the national team and won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics and a World Cup in 2015. 
    
During her college career, she played for UC Berkeley and went on to play professionally for several teams including Orlando Pride. At 22 she became the youngest player on the national team at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
    
However, her skills and passions don’t stop once she has left the field. Morgan is a strong advocate for gender equality and equal pay in sports and she also uses her time to educate others on soccer. With her spouse, she has been able to travel to Tanzania as a Sports Envoy with the US State Department’s Sports Diplomacy Office.  She has also teamed up with Simon and Schuster to write several children’s books on soccer.  In 2019, Morgan was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people. 
   
 Her most recent appearance was in 2023 at her fourth World Cup and she is working hard as the captain of San Diego Wave FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)
