Flashback Athlete of the Month for March 2021

Allen Iverson, former NBA superstar is our flashback athlete for the month of March. Iverson was a star starting as early as high school where he earned the Associated Press High School player of the year award for both football and basketball. After two years playing for Georgetown, where he set the school’s record for career scoring average at 22.9 points per game, he was the first overall draft pick in the 1996 NBA draft onto the Philadelphia 76ers.

Throughout his career in Philadelphia, Denver, Detroit and Memphis, Iverson became one of the most impressive players in the league’s history. He averaged 26.7 points per game and 29.7 in playoff games, a record that is second to Michael Jordan. He was voted league MVP after the 2000-01 season, was the four-time NBA scoring champion and was rated by ESPN to be the fifth greatest shooting guard of all time in 2008.
