Ariana Grande Teases New Beauty Brand Coming This Month

No, you’re not dreaming. Ariana Grande has posted on her Instagram a teaser for her new makeup line, R.E.M. Beauty. Grande herself is dressed in a ‘60s inspired space cowboy outfit and holding a large lipstick tube. The teaser comes after the main announcement last month. Grande has been working on the brand for two years and is collaborating with Forma Brands, best known for their work with Morphe and Lipstick Queen.

Not many details have been released about what is dropping in November, other than that it will be launched as a series of drops rather than a large collection. Each drop is known as a “Chapter.” The first, titled “Ultraviolet,” will focus on the eyes and include products such as liquid and glitter eyeshadows, eyeliner pens, mascara, lipsticks, and “tingly” lip glosses.

In what some may claim to be an oversaturated market, the makeup world has seen multiple celebrities throughout the past few years start their own makeup lines. Grande has stated R.E.M. Beauty was not created with the intention of solely making money and joining a culture trend, but rather an extension of her creativity and music. In an interview with Allure, Grande said, “you can never have enough makeup, just like you can never have enough music.”

Op-Ed: The Subjective Nature of Beauty Over the Years

Growing up in a Pentecostal household, there were a lot of beauty trends that passed me by that I wasn’t a part of. For those who don’t know what Pentecostal is, it is a Christian, Protestant-based religion. It also, depending on the church, follows some strict rules when it comes to a women’s appearance. Whatever each church’s case may be, I did not partake in makeup, dyeing my hair- and cutting anything except the ends of it- plucking my eyebrows, wearing certain jewelry, etc. This was of my own doing; of course, I wasn’t forced, but it was something that was introduced to me pretty early on. Therefore, I underestimated the effects of not partaking in the, at the time unknowingly, yet still fleeting beauty trends of my high school.

    Brad Pitt’s New Skincare Line

The brand says all products are based on the antioxidant power of grapes, “Grape seeds are known to be rich in polyphenols which are molecules that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,” states Dr. Emily Wood, a board-certified dermatologist. Another study suggests that grape seed extracts might have benefits that support aging by reducing sun damage exposure- a large contributor to cell destruction.

Op-Ed: How Dance Competitions Affected My Relationship with Makeup

I liked wearing makeup because I felt pretty when I wore it. My skin was never smooth, so I felt the need to cover up my acne to look like everyone around me who had clear skin, which made me feel insecure. Caking on makeup made my acne worse, but I had to wear it for dance competitions.

Miss England Finalist Makes History by Being the First to Compete Makeup

Melissa Raouf’s goal is to inspire girls and women who have been victims of insecurity due to the fact that we live in a society that profits off them by marketing beauty products with photoshopped images and filling beauty pageants with women’s cosmetically altered faces. When taking this into consideration, why wouldn’t one think that beauty is synonymous with distortion? However, Melissa Raouf opens their eyes by becoming the first competitor in the 94-year history of the beauty pageant to compete without makeup.
