Early on Saturday I showed up to check in with the patrols with my son Anthony who at 17 has been a Junior Guardian Angel, trains with Super Stretch in Washington Heights and has renewed patrolling after being in lockdown at home because of the pandemic. He was amazed at the turnout on a day where it was below freezing.

Thomas Tut Hunt announced today on Martin Luther King Jr Day that the Chicago Guardian Angels have been given a storefront headquarters in Logan Square, Chicago. The community has decided that in the face of escalating violent crime that it will try and improve, not move.

In the 42 year history of the Guardian Angels the closing of this 24 hour criminal hotspot hotel is one of our greatest achievements. The community was in total peril. For a year none of the existing government agencies would do anything about it. Different Guardian Angels patrols took shifts in and around the hotel, handing out fliers of the wanted suspects in the New Year’s killings & shooting in front of the hotel.

NEW YORK CITY, NY: Guardian Angels President/Founder Curtis Sliwa will join with fellow Guardian Angels to announce increased patrols for New Years Eve in Times Square and on the subways. Hundreds will be deployed to keep the peace in tourist hubs and on public transit after record crime increases across the City.

Last February after the Chinese Lunar New Year in Chinatown we noticed that there were a number of attacks against Asians by teenage thugs or emotionally disturbed people. They all usually had the same MO – they were blaming their victims for the coronavirus.

Back on July 4th of this year the grandson of our Washington DC leaders Devon Thomas McNeil, age 11, was shot and killed in the crossfire of thugs. All have since been arrested and await prosecution.

This is as bad as it gets. There are 9 million people living in London. Because of the total lockdown it has become a ghost town. The Guardian Angels are on a mission to help those who cannot find shelter as this new strain of coronavirus ravages the city. The World Wide news is filled with the stories of how the British Prime Minister has put LONDON into a total Lockdown because of a new strain of CoronaVirus. You can only be outside with one other person. The London Guardian Angels are following the rules and in groups of 2 are going out into the streets to help those who are destitute and stranded.

This past week Keiji Oda, the Guardian Angels International Director, flew into NYC for a week’s visit. He told us what was happening internationally with our chapters. Naturally some of them have been affected by the lockdowns in the countries but everyone was trying to do something within the rules of what their countries had established.

This past June 1st and 2nd rioters and looters took to the streets of the Fordham section of the Bronx. The Mayor ordered the NYPD to stand down. At the same time the Deputy Inspector Richard Brea of the 46 Precinct turned in his badge because the city would not let him and his fellow officers do their job. Crime in the area has skyrocketed. The gangs and thugs rule.
