Having defeated Osasuna, 2-0, Barcelona is now set to come against arch-nemesis Real Madrid in Spanish Super Cup final. Thursday’s goals from Robert Lewandowski, 35, and Lamine Yamal, 16, helped Barcelona trump Osasuna, advancing them to the final where they will face Real Madrid. Barcelona’s game against Osasuna took place in Saudi Arabia, and it marked the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid has also had its fair share of wins as it beat rival team Atlético Madrid, 5-3, this week as well. Real Madrid’s game against Barcelona will be considered a rematch from last year’s final game which was won by Barcelona, 3-1. According to Reuters, Osasuna players were furious as they complained to the referee that Barcelona’s defender Andreas Christensen fouled Osasuna’s left winger Jose Arnaiz before starting the counter-attack, a VAR check later confirmed the goal.
Osasuna manager Jagoba Arrasate told Movistar Plus: “We felt we were wronged because the refereeing criteria was very different during the whole match. The foul was clear.”
Barcelona’s manager Xavi Hernandez replied to this allegation: “Watching live it looked like a foul, to be honest, but the replay shows that there was nothing…”
“The Super Cup marks the first Spanish competition in which the audio between officials during the video reviews are made available after matches”, as per FOX Sports.
The game will take place this Sunday, January 14 at 2 pm Eastern Time. It will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and it will be shown on ABC. Stay tuned soccer lovers.
