They used to say that Staten Island was the lost borough. There have been negative situations that can be found in any of the five boroughs but for whatever the reason it always came out worse here in Staten Island.
I can do the analytics and statistics and prove that things are no better or worse in Staten Island but why waste the time.
I rather talk about the positive.
I rather talk about the fact that Chazz Palminteri brought his one-man show A Bronx Tale to a sold-out theater. I also rather talk about the fact that the legendary Frankie Valli came here, started singing Cherrie, and the capacity crowd at the same St. George Theater that came to see Chazz went nuts.
Then there is professional baseball. There is an independent baseball team that is a part of the Atlantic League. They are called the FERRYHAWKS. The team’s manager is former All-star major leaguer, Edgardo Alfonzo. The owners are WABC radio owner John Catsimatidis along with Yankee Global, the same organization that is a part of the NY Yankees along with Team President Randy Levine and Pete Davidson of Saturday Night Live fame.
Wait till you see their stadium, (Richmond County Stadium) with the incredible new turf field and the greatest panoramic view of New York City possible.
According to General Manager Gary Perrone and team President Eric Schufler This will not be just baseball. It will have all sorts of entertainment possible. Former big leaguer and television personality Nelson Figueroa will be the pitching coach and all-around ambassador. Long time pitching phenom Ed Medina will help find the great talent.
Then there is Hollywood. I have been involved with two major motion pictures in the last three years here in Staten Island. The first being The Bottom of the Ninth with Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara and the second being Out of Order with Luis Guzman, who is known in the industry as the greatest character actor in the world and Brooke Shields who’s name is known worldwide. Also in the film is Brandon Routh who many of the young people in Staten Island and around the globe know him as Superman in Superman Returns. The film is being directed by Guy Jacobson and bringing the film to Staten Island was the mastermind of producer Jesse Manning.
I think the people of Staten Island should be proud of what they have going on in this very interesting community. There has to be a reason why the FERRYHAWKS baseball team and his ownership group found it important to create new jobs and bring baseball back to the borough that I happen to think is possibly the most interesting in the world.
I hope the people here realize what they have and truly support and appreciate it
