Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, was born on July 2, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. He began his music hiring in his teen years at just ten years old, making music for his fellow classmates. He then began making beats on an old computer. After traveling to Nigeria’s southern coast, Ogulu meets up with music producer LeriQ; this meeting is what sparked his appreciation for his native music and culture.

Diving into dancehall and Afro-beat music, Burna Boy’s debut song “Like a Party,” with production by LeriQ, propelled him into local stardom. Shortly after that, in 2013, Burna Boy released his debut album, which featured artists like Wizkid, 2face, Timaya, and M.I.

Since then, Burna Boy has released six albums and countless singles featuring artists like Naughty by Nature, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and Becky G. Ogulu’s album was nominated for a Grammy for Best World Music Album in 2019. Recently, Burna Boy performed a sold count concert at Madison Square Garden in April of 2022.
