Latin Artist of the Month for August 2020
Carla Morrison was born on Tecate, Baja California on July 19, 1986. She is three Latin Grammy winner, Mexican alternative pop singer and composer. From a young age she was taught in the arts of design, dance and singing, where she developed a great love and passion for singing. On her seventeenth birthday, moved by her passion for music, she decided to dedicate herself to the study of music and moved to Phoenix Arizona, where she started her studies in Mesa Community College. Soon she realized that her connection with music was more spiritual, emotional and autodidactic, than academically and left school.
Carla started to present her first music compositions under the name Babaluca, a band composed of Nick Kizer, Nicole Petta and her. The band got fast recognition inside the local scene and achieved to be a fan favorite in no time. Through her artistic endeavor, she collaborated with Mark Erickson in which they worked together to interpret the song “Tragos de amargo licor” in a music festiva. After a short, but productive music trajectory with Babaluca, Carla decided to move back to Mexico and pursue a soloist career in music.
As a soloist singer, her career skyrocket. In 2009 she dropped her first album, “Aprendiendo a aprender” which positioned her inside the Mexican music scene. She was then noticed by Natalia Lafourcade, which invited to open for her in her live performance. This was her first official presentation to the City of Mexico as Carla Morrison and opened the doors to conquer the hearts of the Mexican people. Her second album dropped a year later took the singer to cultivate more successes in the music industry and soon she started performing in more important cities within Mexico, the United States and Colombia.
After her first Latin Grammy award, every album after that was a success and loved by her fans all over the world. Not only did she become an amazing Latin singer, she also got the opportunity to collaborate with many famous singers like J Balvin, Enrique Bunbury and Macklemore. She also debuted as an actress in the movie “Ana Maria in Novela Land”. Such a phenomenon of a human, a great independent woman artist who dared to dream big and achieved her goal.
