In yesterday’s divisional matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers, the Chiefs came from behind to remain undefeated on the season. Although Kansas City was able to come out with a victory, they suffered what could be a crucial loss.
During the first quarter of the game, QB Patrick Mahomes threw an interception, during the defensive player’s return Mahomes and wide receiver Rashee Rice collided. Mahomes accidentally took Rice’s legs out which overextended his knee. Rice was distraught and in pain on the sideline before being carted to the locker room and being ruled out for the rest of the contest.
Last night, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Rice is “feared to have a serious and significant knee injury…likely an ACL tear”. MRI’s today will confirm the significance of the injury but if it is indeed an ACL tear this would put Rice out for the remainder of the season—a brutal blow for the defending champions.
KC has been riddled with injuries so far this season, already missing their starting WR Hollywood Brown, and their starting running back Isiah Pacheco. The Chiefs will likely look to make a move for an offensive weapon. Despite the Davante Adams rumors, I don’t see the Raiders trading within the division, so I think Kansas City will be forced to look elsewhere. Some names to keep an eye out for are Darius Slayton, Robert Woods, Diontae Johnson, and Romeo Doubs.
