Fashion Designer of the Month for May 2023

Bio

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Colin LoCascio naturally gravitates towards the playful style of Fran Drescher — his all-time favorite actress known for her breakout role on the New York-based television series “The Nanny” — and largely attributes his design aesthetic to her wardrobe on the show. Starting on a high note this season, LoCascio’s debut runway show featuring his Fall/Winter 2023 collection was filled with vibrant colors, patchwork, layering, and crochet and sequin textures. In addition to fitting each look to the model wearing it, LoCascio even took the time to coordinate soft glam makeup looks unique to each one. As a result, each look tells a story, literally from head to toe.

According to Vogue and W Magazine, he was named one of the “five debuts to know about” after his first-ever runway show at Spring Studios. But Colin LoCascio has long served as a key player in fashion, working on runway designs for several of fashion’s favorite brands including Marc Jacobs, Adam Selman, Elizabeth and James, and Vivienne Hu. Today, the ready-to-wear designer is known for his cartoony prints, surprising maximalist textures, and fabrication art, such as the flowers and also frogs inspired by a childhood stuffed animal. Originally, Locascio thought he wanted to go into toy design but as he put it: “I guess I didn’t stretch that far.”
