Latin Artist of the Month for July 2020

Bio

What doesn’t our Latin artist of the month do?! Danna Paola is a very well known singer as well as a model and an actress since her early years. At just 24 years old, Danna has done everything from Mexican Sesame Street to voicing Rapunzel in the Spanish-language soundtrack of Tangled. Originally from Mexico City, Paola was raised by her parents Patricia Munguia and former singer of “Grupo Ciclon and Los Caminanates,” Juan Joe Rivera Arellano. Her older sister Vania Paola also starred in the show “Plaza Sesamo” alongside Danna in 1999.

In her early career besides her and her sister’s debut on Mexican Sesame Street, she also appeared in a Latin soap opera at the age of 5 and the next year received a lead role in a different Latin soap opera entitled, Maria Belen. That same year at just the age of 6, Paola released her first album, Mi Globo Azul, which successfully introduced the public to this upcoming star.

From there, Danna started to land more and more TV gigs including her first soap opera away from the children’s genre. As a member of the cast of the teen soap opera Atrevete a Sonar, Paola was able to record two soundtracks and tour across Mexico promoting the show. Not only was the show a success but the soundtrack earned a certified double platinum rating in Mexico. In 2010, Danna was given the opportunity to voice Rapunzel in the Spanish soundtrack for Tangled which was an amazing opportunity that helped to broaden her horizons.

In 2013, Paola auditioned for the first production of the Spanish-language version of the successful Broadway musical Wicked, in Mexico City. She auditioned for both lead roles and was cast as Elphaba. Critics and even the original composer applauded her amazing performance. Danna became the youngest person to play the role of Elphaba in a professional theatre production at just 18 years old.

March of 2014 was when Danna displayed her keen eye for fashion by collaborating with a popular Mexican jean clothing line to create her line, “Danna Paola, by SexyJns.” After launching, products quickly sold out across Mexico.

On October 29th, 2014, Paola performed the Spanish-language version of “No Good Deed,” at the Lunas del Auditorio award show where Wicked received an award in the “Broadway Show” category. After Wicked performances concluded, the producer, Alex Gou, offered her the lead role in the musical Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar.

Over the past few years, she has released singles on her own but also in part with film releases. Just this year, she released an album entitled “SIE7E+.” This is a reissue of her original album called “SIE7E,” which she released in 2019. The album features other singers like Skinny Happy and Yera.

It is no secret that Danna Paola is a very successful and talented artist and actress but it doesn’t just stop there. It is so refreshing to see such a young, driven, and well-rounded individual who has accomplished so much in such a short period. She deserves all of the recognition and praise and is especially deserving of the July 2020 Latin Artist Pick. We expect a bright future ahead for this already successful icon.
