Avengers Infinity War held the top domestic box office spot for three weeks, but Deadpool 2 just replaced it. Deadpool 2 made approximately $125 million in its’ opening weekend and became the second-biggest domestic opening ever for an R rated film. The first biggest domestic opening for an R rated film was Deadpool, the processor to Deadpool 2. Deadpool 2 is also the 10th highest-grossing film in 2018.
Without giving away any spoilers, Deadpool 2 is about a cafeteria chef, Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), who gathers a team to protect a young boy from Cable, a “time-traveling cyborg.” Currently, the film is receiving praise from the media due to its representation of an LGBTQ couple. Negasonic Teenage Warhead isn’t a major character in the film, but she comes out as queer by introducing Deadpool to her girlfriend. After years of Hollywood studios opting out of introducing LGBTQ comic book characters in their films, this is a big step for the LGBTQ community.

While Disney+ has yet to disclose the release date for the film, fans are already excited about the nostalgia the film will bring to older and younger audiences. In the live-action musical, Brandy also starred alongside Whitney Houston as Fairy Godmother while featuring other renowned names like Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Garber, Natalie Desselle Reid, Bernadette Peters, and Jason Alexander. The 1997 film earned seven Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Special.
