Deshaun Watson’s Nike Sponsorship Suspended. Beats by Dre Ends Relationship.

The NFL offseason always has its big moments, from trades and free agent signings, but no story has been bigger than Deshaun Watson’s legal issues this year.  The Houston Texans’ quarterback has over 22 civil lawsuits filed against him for sexual assault by therapists who have worked with him.  The first round of civil suits were filed in March 2021 and more suits could still be in the process of being filed.  The most recent round of suits have triggered Nike and Beats by Dre to take action with the two companies sponsoring Watson.  Nike has decided to suspend their deal with Watson, while Beats by Dre have ended their relationship with him.  Nike and Beats are the first major sponsors to suspend or cut ties with Watson since the start of suits being filed.  The NFL is doing their own investigation on the matter and have not administered any punishment to Watson as of now.

Nikola Jokic Wins KIA NBA MVP Award in Landslide

The KIA NBA MVP award was a landslide victory for Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic who received 91 out 100 first place votes. The 26-year-old made history being the lowest draft pick to win the MVP since he was drafted 41st overall in 2014. Jokic nearly averaged a triple-double during the regular season, averaging 26.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists a game while shooting over 56% from the field. The Nuggets lost All-Star point guard Jamal Murray in April to injury but finished the season 13-5 because of Jokic’s high level of play.
