As more people are forced to stay home due to the pandemic, they look to entertainment such as Netflix to fill their uneventful days. A new series released in April has taken quarantine binge-watching by storm. Quickly gaining popularity on social media platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok, “Outer Banks,” is a show that takes place in, you guessed it, the Outer Banks, incorporating a wide variety of genres such as Romance, Mystery and a bit of Comedy. The show explores the life of John B., a sixteen-year-old searching for answers about his father who disappeared and attempting to uncover the mystery his father spent his life trying to solve. Alongside his lifelong friends and unexpected allies, we follow his journey of true friendship, crime, drugs, and even love. For most of the cast, this series was their big premiere, including the stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline. The show has a total of ten episodes and just a singular season as of yet. Due to the pandemic, it is still unsure whether they are filming a new season but it is rumored there definitely will be.
This show isn’t the only one to make headlines for its popularity. “Tiger King,” was released in March on Netflix and similarly to Outer Banks, overtook social media. The true-crime documentary stars a man by the name of Joe Exotic who isn’t your typical zookeeper. His rivalry with Carole Baskin, another zookeeper seems to be the highlight of the series rather than the animals. The show has gained traction due to its incomparable drama and ridiculous dialogue. Though many have raised concerns due to the true mistreatment of the animals in this series, it still was deemed to be the most “in demand” documentary in the world.
If you are looking for two series to binge-watch, Netflix has the ones for you. More series and even movies are emerging as time goes on even during the pandemic. Instead of following along from social media, get started on what you’re missing.
