Born in 1964, Dwight “Doc” Gooden is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played an impressive 16 seasons in the MLB. During his career of 430 games, he pitched 2,800 2/3 innings and a win-loss record of 194-112
Gooden has played for multiple teams starting with the Mets and was quickly established as one of the most talented pitchers. At only 19, he earned the first of four All0Star selections, won the National League Rookie of the Year Award, and led the league in Ststrikeouts. However, his achievements didn’t stop there. He went on to win the CY Young Award and helped the Mets win the 1986 World Series.
Gooden would go on to be inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
In August of 2023, the Mets announced that they would retire Gooden’s number: 16.
