Emmy Presenters mock Candidate for Vice President

Last night was the 76th Emmy Award Show. Award winners came up to the stage and thanked God, friends, family, and coworkers for their help in allowing them to achieve this goal. The winners, and even some presenters, took their time on stage to bring up this year’s election, poking fun at some candidates.

Candice Bergen presented the award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. While presenting, she looked back at her time on the sitcom “Murphy Brown” saying, “For 11 years, I had the tremendous privilege of playing the lead in a comedy series called Murphy Brown, I was surrounded by brilliant and funny actors, had the best scripts to work with, and in one classic moment, my character was attacked by vice president Dan Quayle when Murphy became pregnant and decided to raise the baby as a single mother.

“Oh, how far we’ve come. Today a Republican candidate for vice president would never attack a woman for having kids so as they say, my work here is done. Meow.”

This was a clear reference to a comment that Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance made that recently resurfaced.

Selena Gomez made a similar comment earlier in the show. While presenting with Only Murders in the Building co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin, she said, “Let me say what an honor it is to work with two guys who are this far away from being childless cat ladies.”

They are not the first celebrities to mock these comments, as Taylor Swift finished her endorsement of Kamla Harris by saying, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift Childless Cat Lady”.
