Poems from Cassidy Paredes

EMPTY WELL

by

I can’t please you, I never could.

So, I’m giving up, just like you think I should.

I go left, but you pull me right.

How are you hurt by the fact that there is nothing left for me, no fight?

You did this, it’s a monster you’ve made.

It’s what happens when you let your words affect others’ pain.

I’m a hurricane coming for you

With waves of the past pushing through—

Not something I can control. With every storm,

I’ve found me and you don’t belong.

That’s the way it is. I have nothing else to give.

Now I’m an empty well, just wanting you to let me live.

Ded. Your hearts well
