Ex-Cuomo Aide Opens Up About Groping Allegations

In her first televised interview, Brittany Commisso, a former executive assistant on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s staff, spoke on her interactions with Cuomo. Commisso has spoken out before anonymously in a previous interview with The Times Union of Albany last winter.

Commisso, whose allegations were detailed in a report by the state attorney general’s office last week, is one of the 11 women who claim to have been sexually harassed by Cuomo. She was also the first woman to file a criminal complaint against the New York governor.

Commisso, who was detailing her experiences with CBS and The Time Union in a joint interview, said she was afraid to reveal herself citing concern over the governor and his “enablers.” She said, “the governor and his enablers, I like to call them, would viciously attack me, would smear my name, as I had seen and heard them do before to people.”

She was also concerned for her daughter’s safety but realized that speaking out will show her daughter that “she has a voice.”

In the interview, Commisso said that the special attention Cuomo would give her was not the normal friendliness that he described it as. “It was not welcomed and it was certainly not consensual,” says Commisso.

She said the first time he groped her was on Dec. 31, 2019, when the governor suggested that they take a selfie. “He was to my left. I was on my right. With my right hand, I took the selfie. I then felt while taking the selfie, his hand go down my back into my butt, he then started rubbing it. Not sliding it. Not, you know, quickly brushing over it- rubbing my butt.”

The second time, Commisso said, was at the governor’s mansion in Nov. 2020. She said that, after shutting the door, “He came back to me and that’s when he put his hand up my blouse and cupped my breast over my bra.” She says she remembers thinking, “Oh, my God. This is happening,” when this happened.

These allegations are released on the same day as the assembly’s judiciary committee met to discuss a possible impeachment hearing. While Cuomo denies that this ever happened and refuses to resign, many democrats have urged Cuomo to step down, including President Joe Biden.
