Yesterday, retired Judge Stewart Rosenwasser killed himself as the FBI arrived at his home to arrest him. According to multiple sources, Rosenwasser pointed a weapon at an agent who fired a shot. He then barricaded himself and likely used the weapon on himself to end his life shortly after 9:30 am.
Rosenwasser resigned from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office back in June. While there, he was accused of taking approximately $63,000 in bribes to leverage his position in the District Attorney’s office to investigate two people. The bribe was from Mout’z Soudani and was for an investigation of two of Soudani’s relatives.
Countless texts between Soudani and Rosenwasser have been discovered, as they plotted to continue the investigation and talked about the bribe. Rosenwasser knew what he was doing was wrong, saying “We must stop creating test [sic] messages. Period”, in one of his messages.
Following the incident, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released this statement. “The FBI is reviewing an agent-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning in Campbell Hall, NY. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents seriously. In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide.”
