Green Day Cancels Concert in Russia

“With heavy hearts, in light of current events we feel it necessary to cancel our upcoming show in Moscow at Spartak Stadium.”

Green Day, an American alternative rock band, cancels their upcoming stadium concert in Moscow, Russia, after the recent attacks on Ukraine.

The band was scheduled to perform on May 29th during their Hella Mega Tour in UK and Europe, featuring Fall Out Boy and Weezer, but they announced the cancellation on their Instagram story Sunday evening saying, “We are aware that this moment is not about stadium rock shows, it’s much bigger than that.”

Green Day continues, “But we also know that rock and roll is forever, and we feel confident there will be a time and place for us to return in the future. Refunds available at the point of purchase. Stay safe.” The gig has already been removed from their tour page on their website.

Green Day’s most famous for their fusion of punk, pop and rock bringing on a new era of alternative rock music to the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Now, they are one of the most popular bands to cancel shows in Russia this year amid the invasions of Ukraine, but Green Day isn’t the only artist who canceled their shows in Russia. AJR released on Twitter Friday, “We are sad to announce that we will be canceling our upcoming show in Russia. Thank you to our Russian fans who oppose their country’s unprovoked and criminal behavior. Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine. At this point, the best thing you can do is share ACCURATE info.” They were originally scheduled to perform in Moscow, October 22 this year.

While these aren’t the only two artists with shows in Russia this summer, artists are taking a stand against Russia’s merciless attacks on the Ukrainian people.
