Harris selects Tim Walz as VP

After weeks of speculation and meetings, Kamala Harris has chosen her running mate for the 2024 Presidential election, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Her choice came Tuesday morning on X (formerly known as Twitter). Her post says, “I am proud to announce that I’ve asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate. As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he’s delivered for working families like his. It’s great to have him on the team.”

In response to being chosen, Walz also posted on social media, saying, “It is the honor of a lifetime to join @kamalaharris in this campaign. I’m all in. Vice President Harris is showing us the politics of what’s possible. It reminds me a bit of the first day of school. So, let’s get this done, folks! Join us.”

Walz has been very involved in many different areas throughout his life. He enlisted in the Army National Guard right out of high school. He became a teacher and eventually a high school football coach. In 2006 Walz won his first election to the US House of Representatives.

He has also been a huge advocate for Joe Biden throughout his presidency. He praised him for his decisions made during the COVID-19 pandemic and even defended his poor debate performance against Donald Trump in late June. He went as far as to say Biden is an “American Hero”. Despite this, Walz fully endorsed Harris when Biden dropped out of the upcoming election and is fully behind Kamala and what she stands for.

With Republican nominee Donald Trump recently claiming that they see Minnesota as a swing state, Harris choosing the Governor from that state could be crucial when November rolls around. Walz also has a strong stance on the border, which has been a concern for the Democrats. He offers a lot of help in some weaker areas and could be a big boost for Harris’s campaign.
