Actor Idris and wife Sabrina Elba have officially launched their new genderless skincare brand called S’able Labs with three products made entirely with natural ingredients from East Africa. “We’re really at the ethos of inside-out. We believe people that feel good, do good…in whatever aspect that is,” Sabrina states. “You need to look after yourself in order to be a better partner,” adds Idris.
Sabrina is very adamant and passionate about the joined skincare brand and has been expressing her thoughts about it on their shared podcast, as well as in interviews. Sabrina states, “Not finding a product or community that catered to me personally as a woman of color, and that catered to Idris as a male.” Sabrina adds, “and then combine it with love for heritage and wanting to see ‘A beauty’ African beauty – get its light as a continent with an abundance of super ingredients.”
The skincare line features three products – a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer – that are priced very affordably for people who love high-quality/luxury products while sticking to a budget. The Qasil cleanser retails at $30, the Baobab moisturizer retails for $56, and the Black Seed Toner retails for $37.
Each individual product targets different skin issues and includes ingredients that speak for both Sabrina and Idris’s experiences. For instance, the Qasil cleaner serves as both an antibacterial and antioxidant (great for acne-prone skin), the Baobab moisturizer is aimed to lighten hyperpigmentation, and the Black Seed toner seeks to refine the texture of the skin and soothe inflamed skin. Sabrina states, “Somali women have been using qasil for centuries. I’ve watched my mom put this green stuff on her face forever. It’s a great natural soap full of antioxidants,” she tells Allure.
