Fashion Designer of the Month for October 2020
Iris Van Herpen is a dutch fashion designer. She is well known for fusing technology with Haute Couture craftsmanship. She graduated from the ArtEZ university of Arts in Arnhem in 2006. In 2007, she opened her own label. Her first collection Chemical Crows was debuted at the 2007 Amsterdam Fashion Week.
She exibits her collections at Paris Fashion Week. Her work has been included in the Metropolitan Musuem of Art, the Victoria & Albert Muesuem in New York, and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
Her SS 2020 Collection, Sensory Seas, drew inspiration from marine ecology and the work of Spanish neuroanatomist Ramón y Cajal. She was also one of the first designers to adopt 3d-printing for garment construction.
Time Magazine awarded Iris van Herpen’s 3d printed dresses one of the 50 Best inventions of 2011. She has also won the STARTS prize by the European Commission and Johannes Vemeer Award, the Dutch state prize for the arts.
