Iskra Lawrence is a British model who is now 29 years old. She grew up in Wolverhampton and was involved in swimming and youth theater. Lawrence is known around the United States for her involvement and success modeling for Aerie which is a brand of intimate apparel from American Eagle Outfitters. Her vast experience and notable ability to spread body positivity and inspire girls around the world to be confident in their own skin earned her spots modeling at New York Fashion Week and for L’Oreal. Not only has she been named as a brand ambassador for Marina Rianali’s Persona collection campaign but also for the National Eating Disorders Association. Lawrence chooses not to retouch the images that she posts on social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. She also doesn’t classify herself or want to be referred to as a plus-sized model. The reason that I thought Iskra Lawerence deserve the August 2020 Female Model of the Month title, is because she has been a model I have always admired and looked up to for not letting haters or frankly anyone, categorize or criticize her body. As a woman, society tells us how we should look, what we should eat, and what we have to mimic to be “beautiful.” Social media consumes our generation and pushes females especially, to look a certain way to gain acceptance. Women like Lawrence defy stereotypes and are the progress we need to make towards a less judgemental world of fashion and modeling.
