After 16 years, one of Hollywood’s favorite couples has announced their decision to separate: Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet. In a joint statement posted on Momoa’s Instagram account yesterday, the two say, “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times…A revolution is unfolding~and our family is of no exception…feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring.”
One of fans’ favorite aspects of the relationship between Momoa and Bonet was the crush Momoa had for years prior to meeting Bonet. In 2017, Momoa said in an interview, “Ever since I was like, 8 years old and I saw her on the [The Cosby Show], I was like, ‘Mommy, I want that one.’” During an interview in 2018, one year after the two married, Bonet said of their meeting, “In that moment, love came and it came big, and he did not run as I think a lot of men do.” They welcomed their daughter, Lola, in 2007 and son, Nakoa-Wolf, in 2008.
Momoa also helped raise Bonet’s daughter Zoë, who she shares with singer Lenny Kravitz. It was well known that the families got along extremely well, with Momoa and Kravitz often referring to each other as “brothers.”
Although the two did not explicitly use the word “divorce,” it seems clear from their post that they have decided to ultimately end their relationship, breaking the hearts of many around the world. Along with their post, it was also announced yesterday that Momoa finished filming.
