Fashion Designer of the Month for April

Bio

Jean Paul Gaultier is a French haute couture designer. Described as an “enfant terrible” of the fashion industry, Gaultier is known for his unconventional designs and motifs, including corsets, marinières, and tin cans.

Gaultier founded his label in 1982 and created a line of fragrances in 1993. He was the creative director for Hermès from 2003 to 2010 and retired following the 50th-anniversary haute couture show during Paris Fashion Week in January 2020.

Gaultier was first introduced to fashion by his grandmother and never received any formal training as a designer. But this didn’t stop the French designer from designing clothes for the biggest names in Hollywood, including Madonna’s infamous cone bra for her Blonde Ambition tour, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Marion Cotillard, and more.
