Flashback Athlete of the Month for July 2025
Joseph William Namath is an American former professional football player. Born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, Namath showed great talent in a variety of sports from a young age. Following his high school graduation, he had offers from teams, including the baseball teams like the New York Yankees. Namath stuck with football and went to the University of Alabama to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide program.
Namath was selected in the first rounds of the still separate NFL and AFL drafts by the Jets and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively, before choosing the Jets. Namath stayed with the Jets until 1976, wining numerous awards and nominations including Super Bowl champion, AFL champion, Super Bowl MVP, AFL Championship MVP, AFL Most Valuable Player, NFL Comeback Player of the Year, George Halas Award, and more.
Following his time with the Jets, Namath would move to the Los Angeles Rams for a year before retiring.
Outside of sports, Namath also had a lengthy acting career, appearing in multiple movies and television shows over the years.
