A former winner and, of course, a fan favorite, it’s not going to be in the 2023 PGA Championship.
John Daly has decided to withdraw from The PGA championships taking place at Oak Hill Country Club this weekend in New York. Stephan Jaeger of Germany will take his place.
“I’m really disappointed to miss the PGA Championship. This Major means the world to me and will always have a special place in my heart. I wish the best to those competing,” Daly said in a statement released by the PGA Championship.
Sadly missing the cut in his last eight performances in the tournament, finishing a tie for 18th in 2012.
Daly, the 57-year-old, has been an OG in the tournament, and we are all sad he will not be continuing. This will be the fourth time he will not participate in the event since he won it in 1991.
PGA opened up, saying that John Daly withdrew from the PGA tournament because of an undisclosed injury.
Being the winner of two majors, Daly has recently had a string of significant health issues. He had his left knee replaced this last December. I’m September 2020; he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. He underwent treatment and had a procedure to remove the carcinoma completely, but the doctors gave little to no reassurance that it would not come back and told him that there was a strong possibility that there was a chance of it returning. In April 2021, he stated the cancer was benign.
Daly has participated in seven PGA Tour and PGA Tour Championships this year in 2023. He was recently playing in the Regions Tradition during the weekend and finishing in a tie for 65th place.
