Kamala Harris Tests Positive for COVID

The White House has announced that Vice President Kamala Harris has tested positive for COVID-19. From here, she will be working remotely and refrain from face-to-face contact with President Joe Biden. Kirsten Allen, press secretary to the vice president, said, “She has not been a close contact to the President or First Lady due to their respective recent travel schedules. She will follow CDC guidelines and the advice of her physicians. The Vice President will return to the White House when she tests negative.”

Harris has received her initial vaccinations and her booster shot from April 1st. She has shown no symptoms from the disease. She received her Moderna vaccination weeks before taking office and the second dose a couple of days after the Inauguration. Her diagnosis came after a month when her husband Doug Emhoff got COVID. He has recovered from the virus, but other Cabinet members have been affected by COVID-19 too. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore. tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

The vaccination has proven to reduce hospitalization and death by nearly 90 percent. President Joe Biden received the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine booster in late March. Even with the concern on Biden’s age and health, his physician said that he is good to work. The vaccination still brought people to contact the disease, but it is not as dire as when COVID was newly hit in 2020. Joe Biden and Jill Biden will be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association this weekend. The event includes around 2,500 guests. Eric Topol, MD, editor-in-chief of WebMD sister site Medscape and executive vice president of Scripps Research, said, “Because everybody is doing so well, the wrong impression has been given that this is mild – Omicron and its various lineages is mild. It’s not mild if you haven’t been vaccinated and boosted.”

Before going to work, make sure you stay close to the CDC guidelines and get tested. Do get tested and wash your hands to save lives! Even this little action can make an impact on the turnout of COVID-19.
