Colombian singer won big at the Premios Tu Música Urbano awards, which took place last Thursday, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ceremony, which is held annually, featured awards for 37 categories, out of which the Colombian artist took 9 home, including artist of the year, top social artist, tour of the year for Bichota, and collaboration of the year Mamiii, her collaboration with Becky G.
This has been a very busy year for Karol G, back in March she also took home the Billboard’s Rule Breaker award during the Women in Music celebration, an award that celebrates female contribution to music.
Premios Tu Música Urbano honors the growing urban movement and celebrates its expanding reach thanks to fusions with other genres such as pop, tropical, and folk.
During this year’s ceremony, 19 artists captivated the audience with their performances, Piso 21 & Christian Nodal collaboration “Pa’ Olvidarme de Ella” and María Becerra’s live interpretation of “Ojalá.” Farruko also performed three of his songs, “Nazareno” with DJ Adoni, “Guerrero” and “Luz” with Panamanian Akim.
Hosted by Omar Chaparro, Carmen Villalobo, and Zuleyka Rivera, the show included a special mention award, the dedicatoria award, which went to Farukko for elevating the urban movement to a higher level. The contribución award went to Victor Manuelle, for expanding the urban sound.
The composer of the year award went to no other than Bad Bunny, understandably so, as this has been a very busy creative year for the Puerto Rican artist. Lastly, the song of the year award went to J Balvin and María Becerra’s hit “¿Qué Más Pues?”
