“American Idol” alum Kelly Clarkson has released the first two tracks from her new post-breakup album and 10th LP, ‘Chemistry,’ which is out on June 23.
Clarkson, 40, made a post announcing the news of the singles’ official release on Instagram.
“Having chemistry with someone is an incredible and overwhelming feeling. It’s like you have no choice in the matter. You are just drawn to each other. This can be good and bad,” Clarkson said in her post.
“The album takes you down every path that chemistry could lead you down. We decided to release “mine” and “me” at the same time because I didn’t want to release just one song to represent an entire album or relationship,” she continued. “There are many stages of grief and loss on this album. Each song is a different stage and emotional state.”
The Grammy winner released the complete lyrics to the singles on Instagram. The song’s lyrics discuss a breakup, with Clarkson standing up for herself and reflecting on a romance as it comes to an end.
She previously said the album chronicles “the arc of an entire relationship” – “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”
In an interview with Variety in 2022, the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host said that the album had been a therapeutic healing process after her divorce from her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. Blackstock, a music manager, 46, and Clarkson share two children, Remington “Remy” Alexander and daughter River Rose.
Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020, and the divorce was settled in 2022.
Last month, on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast, Clarkson admitted that going through a breakup “rips you apart.”
“Anyone that’s been divorced [knows]. That was years in trying to make – not make it work, ‘cause I never wanted to be part of something to ‘make it work,’” added Clarkson.
“I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it awesome. I wanted to make it everything it possibly could be, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.”
Clarkson last released a Christmas album in 2021 after releasing the pop-rock album titled “Meaning of Life” in 2017.
