Kendrick Lamar Releases New Single

A new single from Kendrick Lamar was released yesterday on the rapper’s social media. The rapper released the song on his Instagram before the start of the Video Music Awards. According to Variety, the song is alleged to be titled Watch the Party Die.

Watch the Party Die song holds the same hard-hitting beats and lyrics that brought Lamar to fame. While fans online are debating on the true meaning of the song, the general theme that those agree on is that it’s about being fed up and wanting to start over. With the image paired with the song being a pair of black Air Force shoes, the image combined with the lyrics complements Lamar’s bold commentary.

While the song isn’t another diss track aimed at Drake, it does call out the toxic culture surrounding influencers and other mainstream celebrities. Watch the Party Die is the rapper’s latest song following his success with his prior two diss tracks on fellow rap artist Drake. Since its debut, Not Like Us has been streamed over 647 million times globally. Additionally, its music video managed to gain around 19.1 million in a day, breaking the site’s record for the most views in 24 hours achieved by a rap music video.

While Lamar didn’t show up for the VMA’s, the global rap artist is gearing up for his performance at this year’s Super Bowl. The announcement was made on Sunday by Roc Nation, NFL, and Apple Music. The rapper previously performed alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent in 2022.

In a statement, Lamar stated that he would remind the world why rap music is “still the most impactful genre to date.” Additionally, Roc Nation owner and founder Jay-Z praised Lamar’s skills as an artist in a separate statement.

“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come,” said Jay-Z.
