Lady Gaga's Chromatica

After four long years of waiting for Lady Gaga’s sixth studio album, Ms. Stefani Germanotta decided to save 2020 and showed up and showed out when we needed her MOST. On May 29th, 2020, the electropop album Chromatica was released, delivering banger after banger featuring collaborations with Ariana Grande, Elton John, and Blackpink.

After taking to twitter to hype-tweet leading up to the release hour, she explained that this album is her “true story”, emphasizing that listeners should not shuffle and just listen.

With a total length of 42 minutes and 59 seconds, the album features 16 tracks; three of which are chromatica instrumentals that are meant to act as both transitions and plot points that move the story of the album along.

It’s namesake comes from the concept of this planet that Lady Gaga lives on in her brain, where all colors and sounds mix to create Chromatica. During an interview with Zane Lowe, she states that “I live on Chromatica. I found Earth. I deleted it. Earth is canceled. I live on Chromatica.”

The album was released at 12 am on May 26th and by 12:45 am, it had already snagged the #1 spot on the US iTunes album sales chart. As for the two of the three singles released before the album’s release, Rain On Me (with Ariana Grande) and Sour Candy (with BLACKPINK), they respectively hold the #1 and #2 spots on the single sales iTunes chart

While Gaga stated multiple times that she wishes she could celebrate her album’s release alongside her fanbase, she decided to postpone her album’s listening session in light of current events in the US and encouraged her fans to register to vote and speak out against current injustices.
