On Sunday, January 14th, the Detroit Lions made history after they won their first playoff game in 32 years against the Los Angeles Rams. Not only was it their first playoff win in over three decades, but it was also their first time hosting a playoff game at Ford Field.
“It’s been a three-year road to get to this point to enjoy that moment and it was a sweet one,” Lions Quarterback Jared Goff explained what this win means to him.
During a later interview, Goff explains he didn’t know they had won yet with two minutes still on the clock.
“I had to do a little math in my head, and I should know – under two minutes, no timeouts, it’s over. But it took me a second to compute all that,” he said.
To make this win even sweeter, Goff was traded with the current Rams Quarterback Matthew Stafford just three years ago, being a huge part of the Lions’ 2021 rebuild. Both QBs have proven that this trade was not only the best thing for each of them but for each team as well. Stafford went on to help the Rams win the 2022 Super Bowl, and Goff is paving the way for the Lions to do the same this year. The two are seen shaking hands after the game and you can even hear Stafford wish Goff, “good luck” for future playoff games.
Fans watched with anticipation as the Buccaneers beat the Eagles during the Monday night playoff game, deciding who the Lions will play in the upcoming second-round playoff game.
The Lions will host the Buccaneers on Sunday, January 21st at 3 p.m. EST.
