Rory McIlroy’s British Open win has made his father a very rich man. According to British betting firm Ladbrokes, McIlroy’s dad, Gerry, placed a bet with them back when Rory was only 15 years old that he would win the British Open before he turned 26. At odds of 500 to 1, Gerry McIlroy’s winning ticket is now worth $171,000. We hear some of Gerry’s friends also placed bets supporting Rory and they’re now raking in the dough as well. Only two other golfers have done this before, so it’s a pretty amazing feat and McIlroy should be very proud of himself. We’re sure his dad is also beaming with pride, all the way to the bank.
As basketball legend LeBron James inches closer to breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-held NBA scoring record of 38,387 points, it seems super-fans are willing to break the bank to witness what will soon be an unforgettable moment in NBA history, as tickets to the next Lakers games have skyrocketed in price.
