Mental Health Non-Profit Turns Down Jamie Lynn Spears’ Donation

Jamie Lynn Spears has announced that she will be publishing a memoir titled Things I Should Have Said. She described the work as “a portrait of a wife, momma, sister, daughter, actress and musician doing the best she could to show up for herself and teach her daughters to have the courage to love every part of themselves, too.” In another statement, she pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds to mental health non-profit organization This Is My Brave “because I know how scary it can be to share personal struggles, especially if you don’t feel you have the support or a safe place to do so.” However, the organization has since denied Spears’ donation after receiving backlash from fans.

After Britney Spears’ emotional testimony in June, #FreeBritney supporters began to criticize her younger sister for being complicit in her conservatorship. Although never mentioned by name, Britney did criticize her whole family for her mistreatment and claims they relied on her to pay for their lifestyles. In response, Jamie Lynn claimed she “supported [her] sister-long before there was a hashtag-and I’ll support her long after.”

Following Jamie Lynn’s donation announcement, fans and supporters took to the non-profit’s Instagram page, leaving comments such as, “you’re accepting donations from someone who HIGHLY contributed to the detriment of their own sisters mental health,” #FreeBritney, and #CancelJamieLynnSpears. With the influx of criticism and disapproval, the organization released a statement that they would not accept Spears’ donation.

The memoir is scheduled to release next year, and there is no mention as of yet how much of it includes Britney and her conservatorship.
