Flashback Athlete of the Month for December 2022
Born on January 3rd, 1969, in Hürth, Germany, Michael Schumacher is a former racing diver who raced in Formula One for Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari, and Mercedes. Mostly noted for his strict fitness regimen and his ability to produce very fast laps during a race, Schumacher achieved some of the greatest racing records and received countless sports honors during his career.
Seven-time world champion and eight-time French Gran Prix winner, his splendid career was cut short in 2013 when, while skiing with his son in the French Alps, he hit a rocky patch and struck his head, suffering a traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma.
Aside from his outstanding sports career, Schumacher dedicated a lot of his time to various philanthropic activities. He became an ambassador to UNESCO in 2002 and has donated 1.5 million euros to the organization. In the same year, he funded the construction of a ‘Palace for the Poor’ in Lima, Peru, which caters to homeless children and provides education, food, and medicine for street children.
