Poems from Cassidy Paredes

MY SUNSHINE

by

What if my sun seized to shine?

What if my world turned dark without the light,

The light your smile brings into my world?

The light I need to keep my heart full.

But if the light never comes, what would I be?

I’d look in the mirror, my disguise falling clean.

You’d see who I really am without the sunshine.

I’d be a shell.

Something dark—like my world when you’re gone.

So please, for me, be my light, my morning song.

Never part away from me.

So I can make sure the light never strays—

So the best version of myself I can be.
