"New" Artist of the Month for September 2023
If you’ve ever heard Of Monsters and Men’s indie folk rock sound play overhead in a CVS or on your local alternative radio station, you’ve already heard the voice of Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir.
Hailing from Garður, Iceland and originally known by the solo epithet Songbird, Nanna has been OMAM’s lead vocalist since the birth of the band at Músíktilraunir in 2010. The band signed with Record Records the following year, and their debut album “My Head Is an Animal” launched at No.1 in Iceland that September. Its U.S. release followed in April 2012 to eager American listeners.
Nanna returned to solo work under her first name, releasing single “Godzilla” in January of this year – offering the first look at a more slow and solemn branch off of her musical identity found with OMAM. Her debut solo album “How to Start a Garden” was released in May.
