Netflix is hosting its first-ever live sports event this November. Produced by Excel Sports Management, BZ Entertainment, and Full Day Productions. The Netflix Cup will be live-streamed exclusively on Netflix on November 14th at 3 p.m. PT and 6 p.m. ET.
The tournament will feature Formula 1 drivers and PGA Tour professional players divided into four separate pairs from Netflix’s popular sports series Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing.
The Netflix Cup roster includes Formula 1 drivers Alex Albon (Williams Racing), Pierre Gasly (BWT Alpine F1 Team), Lando Norris (McLaren Racing), and Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari). As well as PGA golfers Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas.
Each team will compete in an eight-hole match, with the top two teams advancing to the final hole. This match-play tournament will be hosted at the 18-hole Wynn Golf Club in Wynn Las Vegas.
“The continued success of Drive to Survive has played a significant role in the growth of Formula 1 in the US, which has ultimately led to the addition of a third American race,” said Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer, Las Vegas Grand Prix. “It’s only fitting that we kick off our inaugural race weekend with a fun event that can be streamed by F1 and PGA Tour fans around the globe.”
Shows like Drive to Survive have revitalized the popularity of motorsport within the US, by giving a deeper look into the lives of sports drivers. Golf Digest noticed a similar boost in popularity for Full Swing. According to Morning Consult Pro, 22% of F1 fans said the Netflix docuseries was a “major reason they became fans of the sport.”
YouGov Sports found that 6.8 million people tuned into the docuseries in a 2023 report. Fans can request free tickets for the physical event here, though Netflix noted that they weren’t guaranteed.
