On Friday, news outlet Deadline confirmed that actor Luis Guzmán was cast as the character Gomez Addams in Wednesday, a series based on the character Wednesday Addams from iconic film The Addams Family.
The comedy is a mysterious, mystical series following Wednesday Addams, which will be played by You star Jenna Ortega, and her years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Written by Smallville writers Al Gough and Miles Millar and directed by Tim Burton, the series will feature Wednesday as she tries to manage her developing psychic talents, stop a horrific killing spree from terrorizing the local community, and unravel the mysterious mystery that engulfed her parents 25 years ago. This all while dealing with the ups and downs of her new relationships and endeavors at the academy.
Starring as Gomez, the father to the children of the Addams family, Guzmán will appear in a guest role. Raul Julia, John Astin, and Tim Curry are among the actors who have previously played the famous role in live-action adaptations, according to Deadline. Oscar Isaac most recently voiced the role in the animated feature The Addams Family, which was released in 2019.
Guzmán is an accomplished actor and comedian who has been in films such as Traffic, Carlito’s Way, and The Taking of Pelham 123. He was most recently featured on CBS’s medical drama Code Black and has also been on series such as Shameless and Narcos.
Wednesday is slated to have eight episodes and is speculated to be released sometime in fall 2022, setting the series up for a Halloween debut.
